Centrifugal pump is used to transport fluids by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. The rotational energy comes from an electric motor. The fluid enters the pump impeller along the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser, from where it exits.
The goal of the project is to analyze the flow inside the centrifugal pump, including turbulence, secondary flow, cavitation and unsteadiness. As a result, some “problem” zones of the flow were found. The customer eliminated these zones from the structure, and the pump efficiency was improved.
